Housing Inventory Remains Low While Sales Cool

The Houston area remains at 1.8-months supply of inventory while sales continue to cool. October was the second month of the year for the Houston area to experience a decline in home sales. Single-family homes sales fell 5.2 percent versus last October, and sales of all property types were down 3.1 percent year-over-year.

Bob Schneider and The Moonlight Orchestra Holiday Show – November 26, 2021 – Hobby Center
Another “out of Duck” experience – Bob Schneider and the Moonlight Orchestra. Start your holiday season this year at the beautiful Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center when the Mucky Duck presents Bob Schneider and his annual Moonlight Orchestra Holiday show. Join Bob for a magical evening that will kick off your holidays in style. You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite holiday standards, but don’t worry, you’ll also be dancing in your seats to Bob’s other hits!  With special guest Lex Lund and other surprises!

Houston Ballet’s The Nutcracker – November 26 – December 24, 2021  – Wortham Theater

Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty – November 26 – November 28, 2021 – Jones Hall
Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 is a perennial audience favorite, as evidenced by its selection as Britain’s favorite classical work in a Classic FMpoll. “Absolutely stunning” (Chicago Tribune) Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma delivers an electrifying performance, and romantic and enchanting music from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty ballet score rounds out a Thanksgiving-weekend program the whole family will love.

The Grand Ole’ Christmas Show – November 27, 2021 – Hobby Center
Will Hearn’s Grand Ol’ ChristmasShow is a raucous, rollicking, one-of-a-kind musical comedy featuring Americana standout, Blue Water Highway! A live retro radio show bringing sketch comedy antics and your all-time favorite Christmas classics to in a traditional Christmas eve broadcast at the 1225 N-O-E-L studios, led by Nick Brown’s Radio Orchestra and Gospel Singers, and the best entertainers in Texas. Made for music and comedy lovers from boomer to millennial this tribute to American Christmas traditions cleverly and progressively blurs the lines between heartfelt nostalgia, and contemporary pop-culture satire.

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker + Gil Shaham – December 3 – 5, 2021 – Jones Hall
To celebrate the holidays, Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the orchestra share music from Tchaikovsky’s iconic Nutcracker score. Experience the full sonic color and splendor of this treasured masterpiece as never before in this special performance featuring the entire Houston Symphony. Running the gamut from radiant lyricism to jaw-dropping fireworks, Barber’s Violin Concerto is one of the most beloved in the repertoire, and no one plays it better than international superstar Gil Shaham. Shaham also joins Principal Bass Robin Kesselman for the dazzling Gran Duo Concertante by double bass virtuoso Giovanni Bottesini.

Disney’s Little Mermaid – December 7 – 24, 2021 – Hobby Center
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this Broadway gem will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”

Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

Potted Potter – December 7, 2021 – January 2, 2021 – Hobby Center
Playing to sold out houses all over the world, the Olivier Award nominated Potted Potter – The Unauthorized Harry Experience – A Parody by Dan and Jeff takes on the ultimate challenge of condensing all seven Harry Potter books (and a real life game of Quidditch) into seventy hilarious minutes. Even if you don’t know the difference between a horcrux and a Hufflepuff, Potted Potter will make you roar with laughter.

The Elf on the Shelf – December 9, 2021 – Smart Financial Centre

Handel’s Messiah – December 10 – 12, 2021 – Jones Hall
The glorious holiday tradition of Handel’s Messiah returns! The Houston Symphony, chorus, and guest soloists fill Jones Hall with joyous refrains and exultant arias, including the iconic “Hallelujah” Chorus, in this moving and powerful presentation of the greatest story ever told.

Sarah Brightman – A Christmas Symphony – December 18, 2021 – Smart Financial Centre
The world’s biggest-selling soprano and legendary GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist Sarah Brightman begins a new Christmas tradition this year with her first-ever A Christmas Symphony Tour. 72nd Annual HEB Thanksgiving Day Parade – November 25, 2021 – Downtown Houston
One of the oldest Thanksgiving Day parades in the country.  Each year, several hundred thousand Houstonians line the streets to cheer on participants. The parade will traverse over 20 city blocks and will feature elaborate floats, colorful marching bands, high-flying balloons and other uniquely Houston entries.

Uptown Holiday Lighting – November 25, 2021 – Post Oak Blvd.
The AnnualUptown Holiday Lighting event kicks off the holiday season on Post Oak Boulevard. This FREE event features live entertainment, a visit from jolly Saint Nick, a fireworks extravaganza and a dazzling new light show.

An iconic and time-honored Houston tradition, the family-friendly celebration has been reimagined with the introduction of over 300 all-new, 20-foot-tall holiday trees that line Post Oak Boulevard from the West Loop to Richmond Avenue.

Holly Jolly Jingle – December 2, 2021 – Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
It’s the most wonderful time of the year as The Pavilion Main Stage features performances of familiar holiday medleys by the student musicians of The Woodlands High School, The Woodlands College Park High School, Oak Ridge High School and Grand Oaks High School. Sing along to classic seasonal tunes with a certain jolly elf rumored to make an early appearance at his favorite holiday celebration.

Concertgoers will be walking in a winter wonderland of activities when the gates open at 6 p.m. with holiday arts and crafts, photos with Santa Claus, The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who plus pre-concert performances by local schools in the plazas. All are invited to climb aboard the Candy Cane Express train in the Gold Lot starting at 5:30 p.m.

2021 Houston Heights Holiday Home Tour – December 3 – 4, 2021 – Houston Heights
This 30th edition of the annual event takes the theme “These are a few of my favorite things…” and as such, each of the 5 featured homes will showcase a unique assortment of antique holiday decorations that remind their owners of the season.

Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular – December 4, 2021 – Hermann Square at City Hall
The Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular will ring in the Holiday season with live music and the lighting of the official holiday tree.
Santa Claus will be available for free photos with children in The Gingerbread Village, along with seasonal food and beverages for purchase. The public is invited to be part of the World’s Ultimate Toy Drive benefiting Toys for Tots by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the event. Help make the holidays brighter for a child in need this holiday season.

Dickens On the Strand – December 3 – 5, 2021 – Galveston
The annual holiday street festival, based on 19th-century Victorian London, features parades, non-stop entertainment on four stages, new additions like Tiny Tim’s Play Land, Shopkeeper Skills Village, and roaming characters throughout the festival. Costumed vendors peddle their wares from street stalls and rolling carts laden with holiday food and drink, Victorian-inspired crafts, clothing, jewelry, holiday decorations, and gift items.
